Want to be a Chaser?

Friday, August 25th, 2006

Have you ever wanted to be a storm chaser? Do you love tracking severe weather in your area and beyond?

One of the best things a storm chaser can offer is on-the-ground verification of tornado warnings to keep people safe. If you think you might have the chasing “bug”, you can train to be a part of the Skywarn spotter network. As a spotter, you’ll relay important real-time data to the National Weather Service.

A great example of a regional Skywarn group is the Iowa Skywarn team, which has been quite busy lately keeping up with severe weather in its area. These are dedicated and passionate individuals committed to weather awareness.

If you think you’d like to be a Skywarn Spotter, contact your local Skywarn network.

As exciting as the movie Tornado Glory may be, what happened behind-the-scenes was even more thrilling.

In advance of the movie’s broadcast premiere, The Tulsa World sat down with director Ken Cole and discussed what it took to document the unpredictable (which included not just tornadoes, but Reed and Joel themselves!)

Adventures After Tornado Glory

Thursday, August 17th, 2006

You can catch up with Reed and Joel and their continuing tornado adventures on Reed’s own site http://www.tornadovideos.net/.

TornadoVideos.net features chase logs, pictures, videos, and soon a storm chasing store.

Perhaps the coolest feature is the Live Tracker, which allows you to pull up a map and see exactly where Reed is at all times during a chase. This site allows you to interact with Reed about severe weather days, and all his hair-raising experiences.
